Get the real TF2 experience by heading to a 2fort or hightower server, but watch out for friendlies. Try to avoid gimmicky 24/7 trade servers and ones like those.
If you don't want to server hop, try out some community servers so you can get a feel for the game. Avoid CTF and KOTH servers for the time being because of this
By bots I mean hacker bots, people are out to ruin this game and have been for almost 2 years. There's bots everywhere these days, though it's better than it's been for a long time in my experience. Though I'd avoid casual for a bit unless you're up for a bit of server hopping. Play the flank so you can practice your combat before trying to take on more than one enemy You'll be able to walk away from most situations you aren't confident in as long as you play slowly and don't dive headfirst into the action. It's very forgiving in that there's only 3 ways to get insta killed, backstabs from spies, headshots from sniper and random crits. It's by no means as unforgiving as CSGO, but it does take a bit of getting used to with class matchups and learning how the different weapons work. It's still a very very fun game, there's a reason why it still has such a large community after so many years.
